George Sheedy. Southworth list copied in the SH,March 26th 1828. I also have a "JOHN SHEEDY" [maybe given wrong first name by researcher?-JF] arrived per Southworth to NSW as a convict, arrival date: 9th March 1822. born. c 1798/99 native place.co Limerick. occupation. reaper. age, 23 years old convicted. Tipperary CO in March 1821. sentence. 7 years height. 5 foot, 3 1/4 tall complexion. pale hair. brown eyes. grey.

   supposedly 1 of 6 brothers transported to New South Wales. records state he is native of Co Clare but alledged to be from Limerick. transported per Tellicherry, arr 15th Feb 1806 to NSW. Australian Secretary of the International Society of United Irishmen ?

born c 1808 .England.London Bridge area. arrived as convict to Tasmania per Medway 1825 [srce:Con 23/3] Ships Indent [Con 23/3]states ___Convict no 709 ___Physical:-5ft 6 1/3 inches tall,brown hair,Light Grey eyes, ___Age:- 17 years [so born c 1808] ___Native Place: London Bridge. ___occupation:-Tailor's Boy. ___Where Tried:-Kent Assizes 15th March 1824 - 7 Years also added to his sheet is:- Hobart Town 15th March 1832-14 years :- Hobart Town 2nd Sentence 2 June 1838.Life. this is too show further convictions whilst in Tasmania] ___remarks:-much freckled.scar on nose.2 scars inside right ankle. ? left side forehead. ___received Freedom Certificate March 18 1831. James' official Conduct Sheet has his name listed as __John Sheedy __Ship:-Medway [2] __convicted 15th March 1824. 7 years. __convict number 709 so the information given re his number and the ship and sentence are matching so we can safely conclude these are the same men. His offences whilst in Tasmania read as follow from the Conduct Sheet [the format is roughly Date offence is recorded, employment[or employer usually, and offence, and then punishment he received and who the magistrate etc was.] *April 20 1829/Mrs Worthy/ charged on suspicion of having been concerned in the robbery of John Bodry. Disd as to this charge [J>Spode & J.Beaumont] *April 21 1829./Absent from his mistress's Farm and being at Hobart Town without leave and about the premises of John Bodry during which time his house was robbed. 6 months chain gan and then to be sent into the interior [J.Spode] *April 16 1830 /Steiglitz/disobedience of orders.refusing to go to church and giving to his master and others false and contradictory accounts of the way in which he became possessed of a bridle. chain gang 3 months at Blackmans River [T.Anstey] *Aug 28 1830.Steiglitz/Disorderly conduct and insubordination and disobedience of orders on the 26th AUgust. 50 Lashes [T.Anstey] *Sept 9 1831/FS[Freedom Certificate-ed]/Violent suspicion of having committed a highway robbery. Discharged.no proof {P.M} *Oct 8th 1831/FS/Assaulting & Robbing Samuel Dove of 2-sps. discharged on entering into his own recognition for his appearance this day month *Jany 8th 1832./FS/Burglary in the dwelling house of Laughlin Reynolds- stealing therein 9 promisory notes value £1 each and other article the goods and chattels of L.Reynolds. Committed for Trial at PM *NB..probably when he got his extra 14 years tacked on to sentence-ed *Dec 13 1832. Absconding into the woods on the 11 instant 100 lashes and 6 months in chains and 2 mos imprisonment in gaol at night *July 24 1833.Maliciously striking & wounding Patrick Ryley in the head or with being an accessory of thereto 100 lashesPort Arthur July 24 1833. Using disrespectful language after sentence had been passed upon him for a former offence in the Commandants Office ten days Solitery COnfinement Port Arthur *Nov 7 1833.Absenting himself from Prison Works.Port Arthur and remaining illegally at large until apprehended near the road toWedge? Bay 100 lashes Port Arthur *Nov 8 1833.Forcibly taking away from a road party a quantity of Provisions Government tools and Bedding or with being an accessory thereto. 21 days Solitary Confinement on Bread and WaterPort Arthur *March 27 1834.Absconding 100 LashesPort Arthur * March 27 1834.Taking away from his Gang without permission an ? the property of the Government for the purpose of aiding him in his Escape from the settlement and with removing his leg irons. 7 days Solitary Confinement on Bread and Water Port Arthur *August 18th 1834.Having CLoth & Bread in his possession & endeavouring to take the same out of the prison barracks contrary to orders 10 days Solitary COnfinement on Bread & Water Port Arthur *Oct 18 1834.Having tobacco on his person.the same being contrary to the regulations 10 days Solitary Confinement on Bread and WaterPort Arthur *March 4th 1836.Having tobacco in his possession & being absent from his gang * in the company with 2 other prisoners under suspicious circumstances Repd in consequence of previous good conduct at Port Arthur *May 27 1833 Colonial Secretary.P.A. * April 24th.1838 Gaol. *March 22.1844.5 lashes James had further convictions in Victoria..:- source: Prisoner Records.PRO Melbourne. Limerick. arrived NSW per Hooghly, 27th Sept 181. convict no: 87 age: 24 years [born c 1807] literacy: no education religon: catholic status: married. native place: Limerick. trade: all work. offence: house robbery tried: Limerick, Oct 1830. sentence: 7 years prior conviction: 4 months. height: 5 1 1/4 tall. hair: brown eyes: hazel/grey complexion: ruddy/freckled. raised mole between eyebrows. 3 dots between right thumb and forefinger. sent to: Factory furth/ref: Archives of NSW. letter 31/8321. shelf 4/2119 further information states: education: reads husband: William BOBNIZER father: John CONNOR. ..expected per Jane (following source: Sydney Gazette,April 5th 1832.NSW) " Principal Superintendant of Convicts Office Sydney. 2nd April 1832. The Undermentioned Prisoners having absconded frmo the Individuals and Employments set against the Names respectively, and some of them being at large with stolen Certificates and Tickets of Leave, all Constables and others are hereby required and commanded to use their utmost exertions in apprehending and lodging them in safe custody. Any Person harbouring or employing any of the said Absentees will be prosecuted as the Law directs. (and amongst the several names was Margaret Sheedy,no 31-408, per Hooghly, 24yo, servant, Limerick. 5 feet 1 1/2, hazle grey eyes, brown hair, ruddy fair complexion, from Mr.J.L.Innes, Sydney. " From this source we know that in late March early April 1832, Margaret Sheedy was working for Mr.J.L.Innes in Sydney. (following source: Sydney Gazette,April 15th 1832.NSW) " Principal Superintendant of Convicts Office Sydney. 16th April 1832. List of Runaways Apprehended Upu To the 16th April (names included) Sheedy, Margaret ,per Hooghley, from J.L.Innes.Sydney " From this source we know that Margaret was at large between late March till 16th April at the latest..so some two weeks. We know she was apprehended prior to the 16th. Sir, 
Patrick Sheedy,Taylor[sic] by the Wellington,was sent to me in a ragged
state on the 22nd of Sept last.
He says that slops [prison issue clothing-ed] where due to him from
Government on the 1st day of Nov. I now beg leave to enquire how he is to
be supplied with these necessary and whether he is to be returned to 
Government at the end of Three months or allowed to remain in my service 
for a longer period as a man of his calling is always required in a large 
family.
