Martin Sheedy and Bridget Ryan
Preface by Jenny Fawcett Martin Sheedy was from the Killoscully/Newport region of Co Tipperary, he arrived in Melbourne,Victoria in 1841, his brother James Sheedy went to Ohio USA (c1854), another brother Michael Sheedy went to Quebec c 1851, and brother John Sheedy had arrived in Melbourne in 1840. The Cummins family (Bren Cummins and Margaret Sheedy) of Melbourne, innkeepers, also appear to be relatives of these brothers, as does the Ahearns (Phillip etc). Patrick Sheedy of Tower Hill region is also probably a relative, as he was from Newport region also. Martin Sheedy born c: 1811. Tipperary Ireland. parents: unknown. History Martin and his wife Bridget married in Ireland c 1839/40, and arrived in Victoria aboard the Argyle in 1841. Martin was first in the Melbourne area, where he owned some land, and subsequently moved to the Gisborne area where he farmed. Martin is the supposed brother of James Sheedy of Ohio and John Sheedy m Mary Fogarty. Children Margaret died 1842. age 1y 1 month.
