MICHAEL SILK/SHEEDY

Provided by
Jenny Fawcett

Michael Silk is Michael Sheedy, son of
Timothy Sheedy and Ellen Brown and brother to
Thomas Sheedy m Catherine Walsh
and Margaret Sheedy m Pat Geary.

Michael consistently used the name Sheedy in Ireland, Wales and
England, and it was not until his departure to Australia in 1876
that he is noted as using the surname Silk. His reason for
changing his name should bear investigation.

A descendant of Timothy Sheedy and Ellen Brown was aware that one
branch of the family had changed their name to SILK, and Michael's
details fit fairly comfortably with known information on
Timothy Sheedy's son.
Another branch of a different family of Sheedy's in NSW also changed
their name to SILK, Silk being a rough gaelic transcription of
Sheedy [O'sioda]
